Today we are going to focus on addition. Look at the two signs below and ask your child to say what they are.

 

+     =

When we add, the amount gets bigger as we are adding more.

There are different strategies that we have used in class when adding. 

These are;

 

  • using objects, like lego or counters.
  • Drawing objects.
  • Using fingers.

 

Read the sum below.

 

4+3=

This says "4 add 3 equals"

 

You could use drawings like the example below. Draw 4 objects, then 3 more then add altogether.
