Miss Shabir's Group

Good Morning! Let's start by recapping our learning so far. Look at the sound mats below. As your adult points to graphemes in a random order, can you say the sound that they make? Try to be as speedy as you can!

Click on the link below to practice our phase 3 tricky words. When the page opens, please click play then click on 'decodable words' to take these out of the game as we want you to just practice your tricky words.

Today we are going to learn a new digraph. Remember that a digraph is two letter together that make one sound. The digraph we are learning today is

ar

We most often find the ar digraph in the middle of words like

park          hard        dart

Watch the YouTube video below and learn about the ar digraph with Geraldine the Giraffe!

Geraldine the Giraffe learns the /ar/

We are going to practice and apply our new ar digraph in our writing today so please get your exercise book and a pencil. Firstly, can you practice writing the ar digraph in your book, remembering to leave finger spaces in between each one. Like this:

ar     ar      ar     ar     ar     ar     ar     ar     ar

Good job! Your grown up will tell you what you need to do next.

Grown ups, please begin by asking your child to segment and write the following words:

barn

card

sharp

chart

When they have done those, please ask them to write the sentence:

A goat on a farm.

Say the sentence to them several times then ask them to repeat it back to you, to make sure they have held the sentence in their head before they start writing.
