Today we are going to learn a new digraph. Watch the Mr Thorne video below to learn about our new grapheme.

Mr Thorne and Geraldine the Giraffe - Episode ur

Our new grapheme today is the digraph ur. This digraph is found in the middle of words such as :

Today we would like you to practice writing words containing the ur grapheme, as well as a sentence, so please get your exercise book and a pencil. Remember to use your robot arms to segment the sounds in words before you write them. Your grown ups will tell you what to write.

Grown ups, please ask you children to sound out and write the following words:

Then ask them to write the sentence:

I hurt my foot.

Say the sentence to them several times then ask them to repeat it back to you, to make sure they have remembered what they are going to write. the word 'my' is a tricky word that the children haven't learnt to spell yet so it is okay for you to tell them how to write that word.
