# Mrs Mowl's Group

To start with today we would like you to practice counting within 20. Can you:

• count 0 to 20
• count back 20 to 0
• count from 7 to 15
• count from 9 to 18
• count from 11 to 20

Use the number line below if you need to.

Today we are going to work on addition of 2 numbers, using strategies that we have learnt in class before. Can you read the number sentence below?

5   +   3   =

It says "5 add 3 equals". Can you think of a way that you could find the answer? Tell your grown up what you think...

We could

• use our fingers to show each number
• use objects such as lego bricks, small toys, pasta to count out each number
• draw pictures to represent each number

So it could look like this:

5   +   3   =

So by counting altogether the fingers or buttons or tally mark I can see that:

5 + 3 = 8

Using any of the above strategies, can you find the answers to the following addition sentences:

4 + 2 =

3 + 6 =

6 + 2 =

5 + 4 =

3 + 2 =

2 + 5 =
